Guitar Samples

Dr. Steve Light, Beartracks' newest member, joined the band in Summer 2016 to play 5-string banjo and resonator guitar ( dobro). A former two-time Vermont banjo state champion, Steve has played in various bands in the Northeast region since the 1970s. During the day he is a sociology professor at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh.

When asked to name his most important musical influences, Steve mentions Earl Scruggs on banjo and Beartracks band co-founder Junior Barber on dobro. In addition he credits "every banjo player I have ever heard" for teaching him about his main instrument. He likes to play one of his 1928 Gibson Mastertone banjos on stage with the band and in the recording studio.

Steve is also a member of The Bluegrass Gospel Project based in Burlington, Vermont. He is proud of his two grown sons and their wives, and his new granddaughter. Steve makes his home in Plattsburgh, NY. He has been known to drive long distances to find coffee.
